Derrick has over 30 years of experience, during which at the age of 35, he Co-founded Eagle Drilling Services Ltd. to become the youngest owner of a drilling company in Canada. A member of the Ocean Man First Nation, he also became the first aboriginal to own and operate such an enterprise. The Saskatchewan-based business, which serviced the burgeoning Canadian Bakken oilfield area, achieved rapid growth over five plus years through advanced technology and commitment to its employees’ health and safety. In 2011, Eagle Drilling was acquired by CanElson for $78 Million. In 2012, Derrick Co-Founded Cheveyo Energy Inc., an Oil & Gas Exploration and Production company and served as the company’s President, CEO, Director and Chairman of the Board. Cheveyo was sold in the fall of 2014. His early career started on the rigs and at the age of 25 became the youngest Drilling Rig Manger in SE Saskatchewan. Derrick has won several awards including the Aboriginal Business of the Year 2007, the Abex award, New Venture of the year as well as the Business of the year, Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in 2006, nominee for Business Leader of the Year, Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce 2008. He was also a nominee for entrepreneur of the year in 2010 for the Ernst and Young awards for the western provinces being nominated by the RBC. Derrick was inducted into the Saskatchewan Oil Patch Hall of Fame 2013 and was that years Oil Man of the Year.
