John Lake graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Geology from the University of Waterloo in 1973. He completed a M.Sc. in Geology at McGill University in 1977. Under the direction of Dr. Eric Mountjoy, John’s thesis was on Upper Ordovician Carbonate Mud Mounds on Anticosti Island. He worked for Mobil Oil Canada in Calgary from 1979-1989 and was their Saskatchewan Development Geologist from 1983-1990. From 1990-1995 he worked for Saskoil/Wascana in Regina and Swift Current. When Wascana moved their corporate office to Calgary in 1995, John decided to strike out on his own as a geological consultant to the oil industry. John has dedicated countless hours in the role of Field Trip Coordinator for the Saskatchewan Geological Society. He has also dedicated the past three decades to sharing his unique insights of southern Saskatchewan’s subsurface petroleum geology through countless core and oral presentations at the CSPG and Williston Basin Petroleum Conferences.
